Online Workshop “Science Communication and Public Engagement” Successfully Held

The online workshop “Science Communication and Public Engagement” was successfully held on 7 October 2026 as part of the STRIMHealth project. The workshop was led by Prof. Cecília Rodrigues and organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (FFULisboa). The full-day program explored why communicating science matters and how to do it well. It brought together 30 PhD students and early-stage researchers from Serbian research institutes and faculties.

Joana Amaral (Faculty of Pharmacy, ULisboa) discussed the difference between communication, dissemination and exploitation of results. She also addressed communication strategies, from writing for peers to public outreach and digital presence.
Ana Patrícia Hilário (Institute of Social Sciences, ULisboa) showed how graphic medicine can turn research into practice. She presented the graphic novel When Vaccine Hesitancy Knocks on the Door, developed within the VAX-TRUST project as a pocket-sized training resource for healthcare professionals.

Ana Correia Moutinho (ISEG, ULisboa) focused on values, narrative and storytelling for planetary health, and demonstrated how researchers can improve their visibility by auditing, claiming and curating their communication strategies.
We thank all speakers for sharing their expertise and all participants for their active engagement. We hope the workshop has given them new tools to make their research clearer, more engaging and closer to society.
