Work package 5

WP leader: Max Nieuwdorp (Amsterdam UMC)

Enhancing innovative potential of IBISS

In work package 5 the primary goal will be to use the high potential of young researchers (PhDstudents and ESRs) as the main driving force for improving the R&I potential of IBISS. This will be achieved through a series of sequential activities:

  • Workshops to promote entrepreneurship and open innovation presented by the FFUL Technology Transfer Office (TTO);
  • trainings on IP management and technology transfer (IBISS KTT team) accompanied by presentations from biotechnology SMEs (Cealus Health and OWL Metabolomics) and presentations on academic entrepreneurship (Prof. Nieuwdorp and Prof. Rodrigues).

The networking with industry will be promoted on Open days and Brokerage day, and will be in conjunction with enhanced knowledge on commercialization and exploitation of research results. This will be accompanied by customized seminars by local and national entrepreneurs who have developed their translational science into start-ups/biotech companies. Advancement of scientific communication skills of PhD students and ESRs, both from IBISS and partner institutions, will be fostered by training carried out at FFUL TTO and ORU in order to develop soft skills and support the careers of PhD students and ESRs beyond academia.
