STRIMHealth IBISS team promotes metabolic health awareness among primary school students in Serbia

The STRIMHealth IBISS team, together with Dr. Branka Šošić-Jurjević, Dr. Branko Filipović, and Dr. Svetlana Trifunović, visited four primary schools in underdeveloped regions of Serbia to deliver educational sessions focused on metabolic health and consumer habits among adolescents.

The visits took place at the following schools:
28 April 2026 – Primary School “Matija Gubec”, Donji Tavankut
29 April 2026 – Primary School “Bosa Milićević”, Novi Žednik
11 May 2026 – Primary School “Hristo Botev”, Dimitrovgrad
12 May 2026 – Primary School “Branko Radičević”, Bujanovac

Approximately 90 students attended the lectures at each school, resulting in a total participation of around 350 students from grades 6 to 8.

During the sessions, students were encouraged to reflect on their lifestyle choices, consumer habits, and the health risks associated with unhealthy dietary patterns. The lectures addressed topics such as fast food consumption, sugary soft drinks, alcohol use, and their connection to metabolic disorders including obesity and fatty liver disease.
Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the liver and its essential role in maintaining vitality and overall health. Students were also introduced to the concept of the gut microbiome and its influence on metabolic health.

The educational activities aimed to raise awareness among early adolescents about the importance of preserving metabolic health through informed lifestyle choices and healthy daily habits.
