Researchers from the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” – National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade (IBISS) are currently concluding another successful short-term scientific mission within the STRIMHealth project. This time, the mission took place at the Research Institute for Medicines, University of Lisbon (iMed ULisboa), in the Cell Function and Therapeutic Targeting group led by Prof. Cecília Maria Pereira Rodrigues.
Between May 3rd and June 27th, 2025, three researchers — PhD student Sofija Ignjatović, Dr. Bojana Mićić, and Dr. Ana Teofilović — collaborated closely with colleagues from iMed ULisboa. Their work focused on in vitro testing of gut bacterial metabolite selected based on previous metabolomics analyses integrated with clinical data, thus complementing the research conducted during previous research stays within the STRIMHealth project.
This mission was marked by an intensive exchange of knowledge and laboratory tips and tricks related to classic molecular biology methods, while some of the visiting researchers had the valuable opportunity to become confident and independent in cell culture techniques.
The IBISS team expresses deep gratitude to Prof. Rodrigues’s entire team for their hospitality, productive discussions, and collaborative spirit, with special thanks to Dr. André Santos, Dr. Vanda Marques, and Raquel Duarte for their support in navigating the lab.
Beyond all the scientific work, this mission also provided just enough time to experience Portuguese culture and explore Lisbon, which is especially captivating during May and June.
