Last week we successfully completed the Introduction to Machine Learning online workshop, organized by the STRIMHealth project and Bioinformatics Team at the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, in collaboration with the School of Medical Sciences at Örebro University.
The workshop was held on April 15–16, 2026, and brought together researchers, PhD students, and participants interested in bioinformatics and the application of machine learning in biomedical sciences.
The program covered fundamental and applied aspects of machine learning. During the first day, participants were introduced to core concepts of machine learning, including the ML pipeline, key principles and commonly used supervised and unsupervised learning approaches, as well as model validation and quality control. On the second day, the focus shifted to real-world applications of machine learning in biomedical research, with examples from multi-omics and systems biology. The workshop concluded with a hands-on session, where participants worked with machine learning tools and datasets using the MetaboAnalyst platform.
We thank all lecturers for their excellent presentations and all participants for their active engagement and interest.
We believe that this workshop contributed to strengthening knowledge and practical skills in machine learning and its application in biomedical research, and we look forward to future training activities within the STRIMHealth project!
